Installation
Build bingo from source with a stable Rust toolchain, and check the binary answers.
Install from source
Prebuilt binaries are available on GitHub Releases. To build from source instead, use the repository and the stable Rust toolchain below.
What you need
- Rust 1.96 or newer, stable. The workspace is Rust 2024 edition and sets
rust-version = "1.96";rust-toolchain.tomlpins the channel tostableand asks forrustfmtandclippy, so rustup selects the right toolchain when you build inside the repository. - git, to clone.
Build it
git clone https://github.com/yexrob/bingo
cd bingo
cargo install --path crates/bingo --locked
cargo install puts the bingo binary in cargo’s bin directory, which is
~/.cargo/bin unless you have moved it. Make sure that directory is on your
PATH before running bingo. If you would rather keep the build in the tree — while working on bingo itself, for instance —
build a release binary instead:
cargo build --release
That leaves the binary at target/release/bingo.
Check it

Where bingo keeps things
One directory holds everything, under your home directory:
| path | what lives there |
|---|---|
~/.bingo/settings.json | your settings, the lowest layer (ADR-0003) |
~/.bingo/plugins/<name>/ | cross-process plugins you installed (ADR-0015) |
~/.bingo/skills/<name>/SKILL.md | your skills (ADR-0009) |
~/.bingo/data/auth.json | credentials, mode 0600 (ADR-0012) |
~/.bingo/data/sessions/<id>/ | one directory per session: journal.jsonl, .lock, summary.json (ADR-0005) |
~/.bingo/data/logs/ | stderr from MCP servers and plugin processes |
A project keeps its own layers beside its code, in .bingo/ — settings,
skills and plugins that belong to that repository rather than to you.
